Trust Your Own Intuition

“There are many aspects to success; material wealth is only one component…But success also includes good health, energy and enthusiasm for life, fulfilling relationships, creative freedom, emotional and psychological stability, a sense of well-being, and peace of mind.” – Deepak Chopra

I once heard a really great story about a simple man who financially supported a very fulfilling life from his own business. If I remember correctly, people who knew him said that success came easy for him. Somehow he had revealed a way of living that gave him the clarity to develop, organize and manage his coffee business successfully, without the mentality and fears that often drive people into stress, depression and unfulfilling lifestyles.

In economics, entrepreneurship combined with land, labor, natural resources and capital can produce profit, but what was so different about this guy that made his life so abundantly, fulfilling?

When I say different I should probably name some of the things that people said about him, so you can better understand what I mean and what makes this story so fascinating.

People who knew him closely said that regardless of life circumstances and the things that usually happen to entrepreneurs, he always had the same peaceful attitude and a great sense of humor. They also said that he treated his family and friends (which pretty much included everyone in his community) with great excitement and gratitude every time he saw them. People who met him for the first time often thought he was way too joyful to be sober, but once they spent enough time around him, they realized that he was naturally that happy and genuinely that way.

When it came to his health, people who worked with him said that he never missed any work because he never got sick. And if he ever showed up with any sign of a regular cold, it didn’t last longer than a day. Another thing that they noticed was that just about every day of the week you would see him with his wife running, hiking, doing all kinds of physical activities. One other thing… They would often see him walking barefoot through his coffee plantation undoubtedly having conversations with trees, just about every type of animal and even with the sun. If you can picture that.

Surprisingly to many, he only spent a few hours daily managing his coffee business. Since he treated everyone of the people who worked with him like family, he didn’t allow them to work any more than necessary. He encouraged them to spend every opportunity they had with their families like he did. Everyone of the neighbors loved him because he was always willing to help anyone. And when it came to his best friend and wife, every night of the week he made sure they enjoyed intimate time together as a couple.

In our society, entrepreneurial spirit is characterized by innovation and risk-taking, and is an essential part of a nation’s ability to succeed, but what most entrepreneurs are missing in an ever changing and increasingly competitive global marketplace, is the realization that everything that makes your business successful and your life fulfilling… comes from within.

One day he was approached by a wealthy businessman who encouraged him to incorporate his business and use his 5 year plan to expand production and become a multi-millionaire.

The happy and simple man asked, “What would I do with that amount of money in 5 years?

The business man responded, “That’s when you become successful and you can drop down to work only a few hours a day, spend time with your family, help your community, celebrate with friends and make love to your wife.”

Short Stories, Huge Lessons #8

Obviously there are many great lessons in this story, but the one I want to highlight the most has a very special meaning to our family. People often want to know certain things about our family (The Radical Roldans), but what I want people to give a tremendous amount of attention and importance is that I had to trust my own intuition and do certain things differently in order to reveal the level of clarity of perception required to live a fulfilling life.

Did we know exactly what it would be like, both the journey and the things that really, really bring joy, meaning and gratitude to us daily? Of course not. But one thing we know for sure is that developing a lifestyle that fundamentally supports the ultimate raw material (human phenomenon), increases your perception, which is the key factor to clearly knowing what’s really in your heart… your Life Purpose… Your Destiny.

Love and appreciation,

Darsana
