“We have self-centered minds which get us into plenty of trouble. If we do not come to understand the error in the way we think, our self-awareness, which is our greatest blessing, is also our downfall.” Joko Beck
Today I want to share something that dramatically changed my life with the intention to assist you in developing a greater understanding of how you can make the most progress in your life in the least amount of time. The truth is that it’s easier to look back at things in life and be able to connect all the dots, but not so easy when you’re in the middle of them. I am just grateful that somehow I did what I had to do, and now I get to help you in creating your own, unique journey!!!
When I was younger and I was confronted with a significant challenge in my life, I would rely solely on me. And when I say me, I mean my sense of Self at the time. Things like how much I knew, what I’d done before, the resources I knew were available to me, and that kind of linear thinking.
I have to say that although I had a very determined attitude with a highly successful history, it was mainly driven by my left brain hemisphere. Consequently not only it made things way, way harder for me, but in many cases I became selfish and self destructive.
But by the age of 27, my biggest decision, became my greatest revelation.
Let me tell you why. At the time, although I was continuing to achieve all my worldly goals, which made it even harder for friends and family to recognize I had a problem, I knew deep inside that the drinking and partying was getting in the way. Like anything else before that, I really thought that I would be able to stop just like that. The truth is that for the first time in my life, I felt defeated.
When you hurt people you care about and then turn around and not follow through with your promises… any other success means nothing. This battle went on for a few years and plenty of lawyers fees. The bottom line is I decided it was time to put myself through a 30 day program. From that day on I have remained sober for over 26 years, but that wasn’t the greatest revelation that I was referring to earlier. The greatest revelation was to self realize that I could overcome anything that my mind told me otherwise.
“I think self-awareness is probably the most important thing towards being a champion.” Billie Jean King
The reason that’s so important is because it took me on a completely different journey. I started to look for who I truly was, away from who I thought I was up to that point. According to my mind I couldn’t stay sober, even when I said I would, but the moment I went into that clinic I knew I would never drink or use again.
Just like that? What changed? I became Self Aware. Not to the degree and level that I am today, but enough to change the direction I was going… individually and collectively.
Instead of looking for ways on how to stay sober like most people I met in that clinic, I felt empowered enough to go after my desire to become a better me. And that meant, I will no longer listen to anyone or anything, including my mind, tell me I couldn’t do something.
The potential of the human heart and brain is widely misunderstood, and grossly underestimated by most people because their minds are continuously responding to previously programmed information.
“You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you’ll discover will be wonderful. What you’ll discover is yourself.” Alan Alda
Quite often I talk to successful people with great knowledge and intentions, who in their pursuit of happiness, fulfillment and the meaning of life, haven’t yet self realize they are NOT who they believe they are.
Consequently and consistently they live their lives having minimum access to their full capabilities. Even more important, despite all their success, they can’t figure out why they occasionally feel like something is missing.
There is also another group of people, who intellectually know they are not who their mind tells them they are, but yet haven’t found their True Self. Unfortunately they live their lives identifying with their minds interpretations as well, with only an occasional glimpse of self awareness.
All of our interpretations are solely based on the internal map of reality that we have, and not the real truth. Our map is a result of our personal life’s collective experiences and beliefs embedded within our brains.
The human brain is a network of approximately over 1 billion neurons. Different experiences create different neuron connections which bring about different emotions and depending in which neurons get stimulated the connections become stronger (or weaker) and more efficient, allowing you to make what seems impossible to others, possible to you.
The challenge is to transcend such INACCURATE beliefs and then develop a greater understanding of our heart + brain capacity of continuous alteration of neural pathways and connections to our nervous system in response to our intentions and attention. I know it sounds complicated, but it’s not. That’s just part of how your Ego reacts when it feels threatened.
Why is True Self Awareness so necessary and essentially important to ALL of us?
We are ALL capable to develop and perform extremely complicated tasks and overcome any challenge, but once you self realize your true nature you can intentionally unleash your potential easier in the least amount of time. Instead of growing through chance and error, you thrive through understanding and application.
What ever you are doing at any specific time, you’re actually training your brain to become better at. Practically any talent or skill you train your brain to do, it will develop stronger neuron connections linking both hemispheres of the brain and heart, allowing you to excel at that particular task.
These are neuron connections naturally designed to be strengthened. Rationality as well as emotional resilience work in the same way. Once you become Truly Self aware, fear will no longer be able to hold you back or block your tremendous capability. In another words, upon your demand you are capable to apply your awareness intuitively and with flow in all the aspects of your life.
As Quantum Physics has proven over and over, by becoming the Observer, not only you are capable of directing your reticular activating system (RAS) to significantly increase your efficiency in the least amount of time, but by increasing your frequency brain wave activity, above the majorities, they will not be able to interfere with your progress, to say the least.
That’s when intentional, higher living really begins. You get to live with such an enthusiasm, regardless of life circumstances, because you have developed the discipline and the consistency to live genuinely inspired by your Self Awareness day by day, moment by moment.
Unleash your potential,
